PCC series 7061-7165

The first stretch of pre-metro opened in 1975, between Groenplaats and Central Station. In function of that premetro, the newer PCCs were equipped with an automatic braking system and couplers as early as the early 1970s, so that they could form a pair together with another PCC. A first series of PCCs, the series 2061-2125, built between 1966 and 1970, received a coupler from 1972. A second series, the series 2126-2165, built in 1974 and 1975, got a coupler from the start. Only the oldest generation of PCCs, the 2000-2060 series, was never equipped with a coupling. In the tram world, they are therefore also known as 'flatcars'.

When De Lijn took over the activities of MIVA in 1991, all carriages were renumbered. The two in front became a seven.
